Miriam Ufberg Rosetti
Mimi was diagnosed with scoliosis, at age 16. Following 6 months wearing a Charleston brace, she underwent posterior corrective surgery with ISOLA instrumentation and fusion. Nearly 10 years later, while pursuing a Masters in Applied Positive Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania and delving into her 500 hour yoga teacher training at YogaWorks, Mimi began to reconnect with her scoliosis and the impact of her surgery. She apprenticed for years with Deborah Wolk (past co-Director of Yoga Union Center for Backcare and Scoliosis and recent founder of the Samamkāya Yoga/Back Care & Scoliosis Collective) and in July 2008 completed Elise Browning Miller’s Yoga for Scoliosis Teacher Training. She also assisted Ellen Kiley in a Scoliyoga workshop at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Mimi spent January 2011 as a student in the medical class at the Iyengar Institute in Pune, India where she is eternally grateful to have studied directly with BKS Iyengar through the guidance and teachings of Lois Steinberg, Stephanie Quirk, Elise Browning Miller and Julie Lawrence. In June 2015 Mimi completed the 2 year Iyengar Teacher Training Program at the NYC Iyengar Institute under the tutelage of Director James Murphy. She is working towards Iyengar certification. Mimi is in the last year of my training at the University of Pennsylvania as a student nurse midwife, graduating December 2023.
Mimi is proud to be a founding member of Samamkāya Yoga/Back Care & Scoliosis Collective. This studio is a one-of-a-kind worker (teacher) owned cooperative, devoted exclusively to Back Care & Scoliosis in NYC. She teaches classes, workshops and privates for students with back problems and scoliosis including a specific class for students with Harrington Rods and other spinal instrumentation and fusions—the only one in the world taught by someone practicing with rods and instrumentation.
