I began attending Iyengar yoga classes while living in the San Francisco bay area in 1978 where I had the good fortune to study with many Iyengar teachers. I tried several types of yoga, but was drawn to the valuable information and instructions with the Iyengar teachings. I continued my studies after returning to Little Rock in 1984, and attended the Iyengar convention at Harvard in 1987, where I took my first class with Elise. I was impressed with her kindness and teaching. I began teaching shortly after, continued studying with Iyengar teachers at workshops and privately in the U.S. and was the first teacher in Arkansas to receive the Iyengar certification (CIYT) in 1991. What started out as a reluctant teacher (After all, I didn’t think I knew very much.), quickly became a passion. I love learning and being able to share to help others with chronic pain and stress. Class settings are fun and energizing, but working privately is very rewarding to see the progress and confidence built from one-on-one contact and instant feedback.
I have taken several workshops throughout the years with Elise and received her Yoga for Scoliosis certification June 15, 2018. I am looking forward to continuing studying with her in the future.
I regularly attend Iyengar workshops and study with senior teachers to maintain the certification and to keep current on Mr. Iyengar’s teachings. I am also an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT) through Yoga Alliance and recently became a certified yoga therapist (C-IAYT) through the International Association of Yoga Therapists.
I feel very fortunate that my husband and I were able to build a beautiful studio in rural Conway on the adjoining 5 acres of our home almost 20 years ago. I am grateful for the dedication of every student that has kept the studio alive.
